The Caldecott Award winning book, Owl Moon, by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr, is one of my favorite winter books.In the book, a young child goes off into the dark woods with her father to âgo owling.â The gorgeous prose is almost poetry as the child discovers the cold world around her during her exciting nighttime trip. The young child in this book learns these lessons but is rewarded by seeing a big, beautiful owl closeup and then watching it fly off into the forest. Then the owl pumped its great wings and lifted off the branch like a shadow. Each skill or strategy has multiple pages that are differentiated to fit the different needs of your students - you can have all your students working on the same skill but with a page that best fits their needs.
